When did you start using Pinterest for your business?

I started in 2010 when you needed an invite to get inside. I used it for my DIY blog first, and a few years later for my photography business.

What makes Pinterest different from other platforms?

Pinterest is a really positive place, and you don’t see negative comments or lots of spammers nowadays. Pinterest also works differently compared to social media sites.

In Finland, many people think that Pinterest is like a social media site, and they don’t realize its’ potential as a visual search engine.

What are your best tips on how to get started with creating content on Pinterest?

It seems that for many the starting is the hardest part. My advice is to start repurposing the old content that you already have created on other platforms, like Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and creating pins for your old blog posts, YouTube videos, or podcasts.

And before you do anything else do keyword research on the platform using the Pinterest search bar so that you know what keywords to use on the pins.

After you have created some sort of routine or workflow with the pin creation you can start implementing more advanced strategies and tactics.

What’s the biggest mistake you see businesses making?

I see two things that might hinder businesses to get results from Pinterest.

  1. They have not done proper keyword research, and don’t know what keywords to use and where.
  2. Businesses quit too early. If they don’t see results after a few months of using Pinterest they think that it’s useless and not working for their business or niche.

Pinterest usually takes time and patience is the key component for great results.

What did you learned this year and what will you do differently next year?

I learned the importance of processes and systems. I started to take more Pinterest management clients this year so a smooth process regarding pin creation and scheduling is a must.

I will continue to better my systems and processes also the next year.

When did you start using Pinterest for your business?

Around 2013.

What makes Pinterest different from other platforms?

The way it focuses on aspiration rather than requiring you to create a presence, education rather than influencers, and images rather than simply text.

What are your best tips on how to get started with creating content on Pinterest?

Start with what you already have for content. If you make content for Tiktok or IG Reels, you have the foundation for some fantastic Idea Pins and accompanying static Pins.

When you’re creating new content, think about what might be uniquely appealing to Pinterest users, who are likely to take action rather than to simply consume the content.

What’s the biggest mistake you see businesses making?

Easy – not using Pinterest. Not every business needs to be there, but for some it’s just a given.

I’ll never forget the man who told me (at Social Media Marketing World) that he didn’t use Pinterest because it wasn’t a good fit for his business.

His business? Travel. Sigh.

What did you learned this year and what will you do differently next year?

I learned to just have fun with Pinterest. My professional focus has changed so I’m just enjoying sharing my painting projects and getting inspiration for the same.

I’m happy to see the new monetization options though and may dabble in that again at some point.

When did you start using Pinterest for your business?

I started using Pinterest for my business from day 1. August 2016 when I launched my mom blog.

What makes Pinterest different from other platforms?

Pinterest for me is different than other platforms because it’s search and engagement based. I can park content on Pinterest to be found for years rather than expire in months like on social channels.

What are your best tips on how to get started with creating content on Pinterest?

Creating content on Pinterest is the hardest thing for most businesses because they don’t see the big picture of why someone is using the platform. Most people use social platforms to be social but they aren’t doing that on Pinterest.

When it comes to creating content for a search based platform you should really consider how people are searching for your content.

For example, you create day in the life content for your TikTok account showcasing making a smoothie for breakfast. You can take that same video and edit it slightly differently to showcase the smoothie making process and ingredients involved then keyword it for people searching for that smoothie recipe.

Now you have one video for 2 different platforms. Think about it from someone just finding out they have a problem (boring breakfasts) to finding the solution (smoothies for breakfast).

What’s the biggest mistake you see businesses making?

The biggest mistake I see creators making on Pinterest currently is creating all of their content for the solution and none of their content for the awareness phase of a buyer journey.

The majority of people aren’t ready to buy when they find you so therefore all of your content being sales related is going to drive people to your competitors.

What did you learned this year and what will you do differently next year?

I have been learning more and more about video content for Pinterest users and what works and doesn’t for ads. I have actually invested into a TikTok membership that teaches short form video because ironically enough a lot of our clients TikTok content works extremely well for Pinterest ads. So I’m going to the source.

If it works well on TikTok and then Pinterest why not start at the source.

When did you start using Pinterest for your business?

I started managing Pinterest accounts in June of 2019.

What makes Pinterest different from other platforms?

It’s a visual search engine! The visual aspect brings to life the ideas and inspiration people are searching for when planning their special life moments. It also continues to be a safe and positive space on the internet, which is refreshing.

Your content also lasts much longer on Pinterest in comparison to other platforms, which is amazing.

What are your best tips on how to get started with creating content on Pinterest?

I definitely recommend doing keyword research, since it is a search engine, this is how your audience will discover you. So you need to know what keywords they’re actively searching for on the platform.

I would also use the Trends Tool to gather inspiration for what your audience is interested in, and when certain keywords are peaking. Another great tip is to plan on being consistent, and giving the platform time to “work”.

What’s the biggest mistake you see businesses making?

Not giving Pinterest enough time. It can take quite some time, think 6-12 months, to really see growth on the platform.

I think business owners think that it “doesn’t work” when they don’t see results in the first few months. Once businesses do gain traction though, it’s a compound effect that can be amazing.

What did you learned this year and what will you do differently next year?

I learned that short-form video is what is performing and resonating with my audience best right now. Even though it takes the most time, I will be more consistent with creating more short-form video in the new year!

When did you start using Pinterest for your business?

I have been using Pinterest for business for approximately 4 years, but personally, I’ve been using it for over 10 years.

What makes Pinterest different from other platforms?

I love that content on Pinterest is evergreen! A Pin that you published 6 years ago can still drive traffic to your website year after year!

What are your best tips on how to get started with creating content on Pinterest?

  1. Just get started, if you don’t make the move to just do it, you won’t experience the power of Pinterest!
  2. Be consistent in how you use the platform! Pinterest will reward consistency!
  3. Just have fun with it! Pinterest is a fun and positive place so don’t get too caught up in the numbers.

What’s the biggest mistake you see businesses making?

Pinterest is a top-of-funnel search engine, too often I see business owners simply publishing Pins for their products or services without nurturing their audience first.

Users on Pinterest want to be inspired, so make sure you also include content that will do that also.

What did you learned this year and what will you do differently next year?

Personally, I learned the power of slowing down and I hope to do more of this next year. And on a business and Pinterest level, it was reinforced to me how different everyone’s journey and experience is.

Next year I definitely won’t be comparing my business to anyone else’s.

When did you start using Pinterest for your business?

I started using Pinterest in the year 2016 as one of my clients for whom I was managing their Facebook pages and group, asked me to start Pinterest marketing for them.

So that was the first day I used but not for me but for my client business. Later after 3 years, I utilised Pinterest for my business to grow from 0 to 1M in about 90 days with all strategies and pins which I learnt in 3 years!

What makes Pinterest different from other platforms?

Less competition, we just have to post the content, that’s it! As we save lot of time and commitment compared to other social media, no engagement was required with Pinterest.

What are your best tips on how to get started with creating content on Pinterest?

Pinterest is a whole different social media ball game. If you want to produce viral content on Pinterest, you need to start by creating extremely visually appealing content.

  1. Make sure your graphic is a 2:3 ratio
  2. Have a really catchy headline
  3. Use San Fonts (Normal fonts rather than fancy or cursive fonts)

What’s the biggest mistake you see businesses making?

That is pinning and re-pinning spam and poor quality content. That is okay. But, please, please, please, make sure you are pinning quality content. Make sure the Pin leads to the correct article.

Check whether the website is spammy with only links? Are the Pins good with their size, colour, fonts and headlines? It’s hard! You’re new to Pinterest, and you’re told to be consistent and pin multiple pins throughout the day.

What did you learned this year and what will you do differently next year?

Still so much to learn about Pinterest. Focussing on idea pins, video content, being consistent, growing an audience, understanding about Pinterest being searchable with new content and a few creators even went live on Pinterest.

Tried using Lens on Pinterest to spy my competitors! So much to learn and applied those into my day to day strategy which helped on attracting more link clicks.

When did you start using Pinterest for your business?

2011 when it first came out.

What makes Pinterest different from other platforms?

As a search engine, it has the power to be the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to your content. I love that content continues to reach your ideal audience for weeks, months and years after you have Pinned it.

What are your best tips on how to get started with creating content on Pinterest?

Done is better than perfect. The only better time to get started on Pinterest was yesterday. I always tell my audience that just getting started is the hardest part.

Start Pinning. Notice what you enjoy sharing and keep your ideal customer at the center of your content – forget the numbers for now and just start playing.

What’s the biggest mistake you see businesses making?

Not adapting their content with thought for the platform. Pinning without intention and considering your ideal audience on the platform will ensure your content is a flop.

What did you learned this year and what will you do differently next year?

Great question. This year will be the year we forget trends and dances and return to just good content.

I predict we will see a return to focussing on strong original content and leave trending sounds behind us.

I was pretty quiet this past year with my young family so had less time to be doing all the things. Excited for 2023.

When did you start using Pinterest for your business?

I started with Pinterest two months after the website went live in March 2010 when it was invite only. Pinterest was – and still is – my go to place to look for inspiration for my interior and for writing new blogs.

After a while, I noticed that more and more Pinterest users were visiting my website because other users were saving content from my website to Pinterest. From that moment on I started using Pinterest for my website and helped others set up and manage their Pinterest account.

What makes Pinterest different from other platforms?

Pinterest is my go to place when I want to be surrounded by everything that inspires me. It is a visual search engine. You don’t have to talk to other people, share selfies and I don’t feel overwhelmed while scrolling through the Pinterest feed. Pinterest is all about positivity and creativity.

Pinterest is the perfect place to inspire and connect with your audience who are searching for your products. I love the fact that content on Pinterest lasts longer than content shared on social media.

What are your best tips on how to get started with creating content on Pinterest?

  1. Think about what you want to share on Pinterest and how you can inspire your audience.
  2. Be clear about your topics and make it relatable to your business and website.
  3. Do your keyword research on Pinterest and add relevant keywords to your content.
  4. Create idea pins, add video pins and static pins that link to your website.
  5. Use Pinterest Trends tool, Pinterest Predicts and Pinterest Analytics to inspire you for creating new content for Pinterest and your website.
  6. Reuse existing content such as Instagram Reels, TikTok videos and YouTube shorts and save them to Pinterest.
  7. Create multiple Pins for your blog posts, newsletter and freebees.

What’s the biggest mistake you see businesses making?

There are still many business accounts that have not claimed their website on Pinterest. They don’t add new Pins and Idea Pins regularly. There is no strategy and there is no use of keywords.

They see and use Pinterest as a social media platform and that is not the way to get results. Pinterest is a visual search engine!

What did you learned this year and what will you do differently next year?

Content is everything. I need to rediscover what my audience loves and which content generates the most interaction.

Picking up blogging again and create more idea pins and inspiring video pins.

Building and expanding my team, improving processes and methods regarding Pinterest management clients and my Pinterest coaching and training.

Thanks to Petra Veikkola, Alisa Meredith, Heather Farris, Emilee Vales, Simone Pavils, Suman Jain and Meagan Williamson for their time and insightful contributions.
